With the removal of SquirrelMail customers will now have two Webmail application choices: HordeMail and RoundCube. In cPanel version 78, SquirrelMail has officially been removed. In it’s peak, SquirrelMail was a simple and easy to use Webmail interface. Without an active community working on SquirrelMail, cPanel has decided to drop it from their Webmail options. SquirrelMail’s last update was May 30th, 2013, with their last release on July 12, 2011. Open-source software requires active developers to commit to the project in order for it to receive security updates and for the software to improve. With no recent updates and what once was an active community of developers has turned into a forgotten project. It’s an open-source project that has not received any notable updates in almost a decade. Both the features and the design strike a compromise between the previous two applications.SquirrelMail was one of three Webmail interfaces included with cPanel. If you do not see this option, it is not available to you, and you will need to choose between Horde and Roundcube. SquirrelMailĪs stated at the start of this article, Squirrelmail is being removed from cPanel in the Version 78 release of cPanel. If it is very sleek in design, you can see all the additional options and functionality across the top in drop-down menu items.
